How to Create a Powerful Brand
Branding is an essential part of business. I often emphasize its importance while working with clients and discussing my services. With the right branding process, business owners can establish a position and build a name for themselves. Here are some factors to remember while you’re building that powerful brand.
Mission/Values
Believe it or not, people care about what you care about. People are more inclined to purchase from businesses that have similar values. This is why you must establish clear company values. I recommend choosing 3-5 words that best describe your brand. The company’s mission is vital as it answers your “why.” This should be a strong, consistent, genuine message that speaks to your audiance.
Storytelling
Many people overlook the importance of storytelling. But I’m here to tell you it’s critical to your business. People love a good story and are compelled to follow a brand that holds up to it. Strong storytelling skills allow people to relate to you. Effective storytelling is done by including your audience in your story without aggressive marketing tactics. People are becoming increasingly more interested in real-life perspectives behind the product or service that’s being promoted.
Niche marketing
If you can find your niche, you’ve accomplished a big piece of branding. The goal is to position yourself with a specific skillset or offering to potential clients. Although getting laser-specific may be extremely difficult and limiting, finding a genius zone is big. A perfect example of this is Drybar, founder Alli Webb stated she “wanted to do one thing and do it good” and that one thing was blowouts. The niche market of Drybar even became their slogan, “no cuts, no colors, just blowouts.”
Consistency is key
Once you’ve developed your brand, you want to stay consistent. People love a company that is predictable and offers the same quality of product or service every time. This is why huge companies like Starbucks and Apple have such a loyal following of their brands. Starbucks may not be your favorite coffee, but it’s the same every time. The cafes look the same, the coffee is delivered the same way and tastes the same. Your branding materials and content need to have that consistency across all channels.
