Refresh and Recharge!
I just came back from our annual family vacation in Cape Cod, Mass! We had a wonderful time fully connecting as a family and making memories. Our days were filled with trips to the beach and relaxing by the pool. We decided to take it easy this year because we’ve all been working a lot and life in the world is just crazy now.
Almost every year since I was 9 years old, we ventured up to Cape Cod. This area attracts us for many reasons, at this point I consider Massachusetts a “home away from home.” No matter what was going on in our lives, the family vacation served a very important purpose which is the power of relaxation, rejuvenation, and a recharge.
If you are fortunate enough to take a vacation, it’s important to keep in mind the WHY and goal of the trip. Whether you find joy in tailgating by the beach(like us) or like to experience action-packed days, you are doing it for a common ground reason-to get away. Being in a different place breaks away from the routine that can drive us crazy. Taking time to connect with family and friends without the demands of work and other commitments is refreshing for us. The exploration that trips provide helps to spark our motivation when we return home. In other words, taking a vacation helps us perform better in business, careers, and personal life.
Even if you take a vacation to the same place, your brain is learning more about a place that’s not home, tasting food you wouldn’t eat on a given Tuesday, and seeing sights that you don’t always see. It’s refreshing and stimulating and very good for our mental health.
If you get the chance to take a vacation, take it! (Even if it’s your local shore town or a mountain range near you). Explore a place, make memories, and limit pressure. The social media age makes us think our vacations need to look a certain way and that’s not true. It’s not always about the storybook picture but what feels right to you and whoever you’re vacationing with. Take the experience, your mental health will thank you when you come home and restart the daily cycle of life!
