Understanding the Parts of a Website

Websites are a major part of your business. It is how we showcase our brands. We encounter so many websites, but do we fully understand how they work? Understanding the features of a website is important for anyone, but essential for entrepreneurs. Here’s a few points to keep in mind.

First, whether you are creating or viewing a website, it has to make sense. Navigation is important for so many reasons. Remember, you want to keep people on your site for as long as possible and you want them to find what they need. A viewer should be able to find what they need without searching high and low for it. Make sure that your navigation bar is set up in a way that make sense for your viewers. Dropdowns are a great way to reduce clutter as they compact related pages- make sure they are all together.

Search bars are also helpful. It can be cumbersome to spend time finding something that you need on a website. Implementing a search bar on your site, especially your blog helps people to find what they need quicker. Let’s say that someone wants to find an old blog post on your site. Instead of the person having to search through mountains of content, they will be able to easily access it by using the search bar.

Contact forms and call to actions are huge. Let’s face it, the reason we are doing all this is for people to reach us. If there isn’t a clear way to do so, potential customers may lose interest. You want to make sure you have a direct way for people to reach you. Utilizing contact forms is an excellent way to capture people’s information and organize in coming inquires. Also, you want to make sure you have a call to actions throughout your site to remind viewers to get in touch with you.

Social media is another important part of our businesses. Many people use social media as a way to communicate with their audience. Although the goal is to keep people on our site, you also want to implement social media on your site. Be sure to connect your social on your site so people can stay in touch with you, and you can further build your online presence!

I hope this helped give some insight on the features of a website. This is such an important area to be familiar with as websites are the home of our business. As business owners, we want to make sure we are optimizing the potential our sites.
