Happy Women’s History Month!
March is Women’s History Month! It’s a time when we celebrate the contributions women have made. It originally was observed for just a week, but since 1987 we acknowledge it for the whole month.
As a female entrepreneur, it means a lot to me. Women used to have virtually no rights or say so in society. For centuries, females were basically glamour robots that just cooked and cleaned. So many brave women fought through that to give us basic rights.
I had the opportunity to go to the 3rd Annual Women’s History Month Summit at the Luminary. During this all day event, I had the privilege of hearing many inspirational women talk about different topics relating to their businesses.
Some of the topics that were covered were media, image, mental fitness and networking. These women had stories, backgrounds and are making things happen each day. Each one of them showed up, shined and inspired. their audience. It was a perfect example of why women need to have a voice in both the professional world and their personal lives.
However, it’s important to realize every woman is going to be inspirational in different ways. Not every woman is going to be an entrepreneur or a politician. Any woman who is doing something challenging is empowered and inspirational.
My grandmothers were single mothers during a time when it wasn’t too accepted. But they showed up everyday with their best selves and worked long hours to support their children to give them the best lives possible.. They also had navigate more male-type tasks outside of the workplace. That’s inspirational.
I grew up in a house with a mother and a father who worked as team. From an early age, my mother taught me to be a balanced feminist. She showed me it’s ok if you have that support from a husband, but to never underestimate your own potential when needed. That’s inspirational.
I’m challenging you to take a new perspective this month. It’s key to understand how brave women inspire others in different ways. We all have different stories and that’s amazing. Happy Women’s History Month!
