Find Your Voice Online!

Most people kind of know my story. But for those who don’t, here it is…

I always had a love for business for as long as I could remember. It amazed me how someone can take a concept and actually make money off of it. I remember waiting in line at Disney with my family when I was 10 and thinking whoever really owns this all(I knew it wasn’t Mickey!), look at all they have! People like my family and so many other familes go down here every year and spend good money to feel the magic. They go to their hotels, on their rides, restaurants and stores every day because the brand of Disney. It was so fascinating to me.

And it didn’t have to be something as big as Disney. I had these same thoughts at local hardware stores and pizzerias. I absolutely loved the idea of small businesses in my community. The closer the better. I craved local businesses like my parents grew up with in Bayonne. But I LOVED my little lake community in Northern Jersey. Ioved the concept of a business so much that at 10 years old I wanted one, so I started Gina’s Ice.

What was Gina’s Ice? I made my own little “ice sculptures” for my clients. These were cups and jars that I would fill with water, place little pictures I drew of symbols like hearts, food coloring and freeze it. I also marketed ice cubes( I bought Mickey Mouse shaped cubes in Disney.) Disney-inspired ice cubs, how cute?!

I wanted to build a store in my parents backyard and make them quit their jobs and work for me. Ahh….a child’s imagination. I did sell a few ice sculptures but the point of this is to find your voice in business and promote it online.

What does this cute, baby entrepreneur story have to do with finding your voice? Everything. You see in the pandemic we were all lost and navigating through fear everyday. Most of you know that my business was inspired by a response to what was going on in the pandemic in 2020. During the pandemic, like everyone else I couldn't do what I was doing before. We were first forced to stay home and after that encouraged to stay local. I was forced to stay in my community and connect with who I really was.

I fell in love with my community again. The beauty and peace of the lake provided me with solace during the darkest days of the pandemic. I remembered who I really was and found my true voice. I decided to start a business called Bay Rock Digital Marketing. Bay-Bayonne(where I’m originally from) Rock-Rockaway(where I grew up). This would be a digital business that can help businesses rebound after the pandemic and that’s focused on community, something we desperately needed before the pandemic and certainly now.

I found my voice. Everything isn’t perfect but I always show up and never give up. I’m my true authentic self with clients and other entrepreneurs I network with. My brand is this mix of conservative and a little quirky-just as I am! Every post I make represents who I am and what my brand is about. And that is super important, even more vital than just blasting out content to say “I'm posting.”

You might find that not every post you’re doing has a super effective strategy. However, if you’re putting content that out there that is well branded. you’re building a strong presence. Keep working on finding your voice and generating on brand content! Finding you and your businesses’ voice is key.
