Choosing Platforms for Your Business

Social media can be an overwhelming part of running a business. People underestimate how challenging it can really be. Most people nowadays consider implementing social media in their early days of launching a business. But we are faced with the question, where should I go? What platform is going to serve my business the best?

As a digital marketer, I’m asked all the time, should I be on TikTok? How about focusing more on Facebook? If I know enough about the business, I can usually make a statement based on what I know about how the platform works. I see many people feeling like they have to be everywhere. And while that might work for influencers or some businesses, it’s not the case for most people. Putting your energy into too many social media apps is not effective and will lead to burnout. Instead, evaluate what social media platforms to start with and focus your energy on.

Does your brand attract a younger audience? Maybe you have a hip, new salon that opened up downtown and you want to show off your styles. I would say to focus on visual platforms like TikTok and Instagram. Not only will these platforms allow a showcase of your work, but it’s where your target audience is. Do you have a business that’s B2B and attracts highly sophisticated business owners? If that’s the case, LinkedIn is your place to be. Facebook might be another one to share with a wider audience what’s going on with your company. It’s all a matter of taking what you know about your business and evaluating the different platforms.

I hope this helped provide some background on how to choose platforms that work best for your brand. It can be an intimidating task but understanding what to focus on is key to navigating through it. Picking the platforms that work best for your brand is a more impactful way to do social media marketing.
